About Your Gorilla Adoption : Djeke the western lowland gorilla was born on 10th April 1995 and was rescued from bush meat traders. He lives in the Congo in a protected reserve managed by the Aspinall Foundation.

Djeke is the dominant male in the group, although at only 14 years old he has not matured into the distinctive silver back of a more mature male gorilla. He was a slightly wild youngster but has now matured into an intelligent, calm and wise leader of the group.

He is the father of four baby gorillas which were born in 2006 and 2008 and named Elonga which means “success”; Bonsomi meaning “freedom” and Likamuisi meaning “surprise”. The latest sibling has been names Elikia which means “hope”.
